Nata Full Form - National Aptitude Test in Architecture.


NATA 2019 will be conducted twice in an year. Both the first and second test will be conducted on a different date as a one day examination all over the country. The examination will be conducted on 14th April 2019 and 7th July 2019 respectively. The test will consist of two parts: Part A will comprise of MCQ based Online Test and Part B will be a paper & pencil test.

The Council of Architecture (COA) conducts National Aptitude Test in Architecture ( NATA ) to measure the aptitude of the applicant for admission to First year of five year B.Arch Degree at all recognized institutions all over India. By conducting NATA, COA provides a single scheme of examination to hold aptitude test & facilitate prospective students from all over India to apply for admission in architecture seats in Institutions & colleges spread across India. Nata is being conducted by COA since 2006. Nata ascertains the candidate's aptitude in the following fields:

  • Drawing and Observation Skills
  • Aesthetic Sensitivity
  • Sense of Proportion
  • Mathematics at 10+2 level
  • Critical Thinking Ability

Nata Exam has two sections:

The first sections deals with questions on Mathematics & General Aptitude in multiple choice format. The Multiple Choice questions have only one correct answer, and each correct response will yield 2 marks. There is no negative marking. The time alloted for first two sections is 60 minutes.

The second section is the Drawing Test. The candidate has to attempt two questions in a time period of 120 minutes. The drawing questions are examined by more than one examiner independently and the the marks are averaged. The drawing questions are evaluated on the following parameters: Drawing, Imagination & Observational skills, sense of proportion & perspective, and colour & composition.

  • Marks available in each component & out of 200.
  • Pass/Fail

Qualifying marks for Nata 2019 would be based on the following rules:

  • Minimum 25% secured in MCQ Section ( Mathematics and General Aptitude Test ) ie. 30 out of 120.
  • Minimum 25% secured in Drawing Section ie. 20 out of 80.
  • Overall qualifying marks ( out of 200 ) would be based on post - exam statistics and at the discretion of the Council.
