Candidates aspiring to take admission in NID B Des at Ahmedabad, NID B Des at NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Assam & NID Madhya Pradesh and M.Design have to take NID two- stage competitive exam:
NID Design Aptitude Test: The Design Aptitude Test is conducted in two stages. Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims and Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains. NID Dat Prelims for B Des & M Des programmes will be held on January 8 2023.
Stage 1 NID DAT Prelims: It is a pen and paper based test generally held in the months of December-January. The question paper will be in English, comprising generally of 100 marks. The paper comprises of a mix of subjective and objective type questions having text and visuals. The test aims to evaluate the aspiring candidates on creative abilities, knowledge, comprehension, Analysis, creativity, visualisation to name a few. Based on the scores of DAT Prelims, shortlisted candidates will be eligible to appear for DAT Mains exam. The B.Des Dat Prelims is a single paper consisting of 3 hour duration whereas the M.Des paper is further divided into two parts: CDAT ie Common Design Aptitude Test for 30 minutes and design-specific test for 2 hours
Stage 2 NID DAT Mains : Candidates shortlisted after the DAT Prelims will be invited to appear for the Stage 2 DAT Main exams.
DAT Mains for M.Des. consists of two parts: Studio Tests & Interviews
1. Studio Test: This may consist of tests in different formats such as drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions etc. This test will be marked out of 100 marks and will be conducted in English. duration of the test will be 3 hours.
2. Interviews:The interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test, at the same centre.
DAT Mains for B.Des: The DAT Mains for these programmes may consist of tests in multiple formats such as in a studio set up. These will be marked out of 100 and will be conducted in English. The tests will be conducted over a maximum period of three days.

NID B.Des 2023: The four year Bachelor of Design programme offered at NID Main Campus at Ahmedabad in the following areas of specialization:. Total No. of Seats offered in NID B.Design programme for Indian Nationals including reserved categories is 125. In addition to the seats available for the B.Des Programme, an additional 19 seats are available for Overseas Candidates.

NID M.Des 2023: The two-and-a-half year full time Master of Design programme is offered only at its campuses in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. Of the number of seats mentioned below, three seats are available for overseas candidates for M.Des disciplines with 19 seats & two seats are available for disciplines with 12 seats. Aspirants can apply to a maximum of two disciplines for the M.des programme:
