National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Gujarat is one of foremost multi-disciplinary institute in the field of design education & research. It has been listed as one of the top 25 European & Asian programmes in the world, by the Business Week, USA.

NID Ahmedabad was originally called National Institute of Industrial Design. It was established in September, 1961 by the Government of India as an autonomous all India body. Today National Institute of Design FUNCTIONS AS an autonomous body under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. NID has been declared 'Institution of National Importance' by the Act of Parliament , by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act 2014. It is also recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India as a Scientific and Industrial Research organisation. For BDes Courses: Total No. of Seats offered in NID B.Design programme for Indian Nationals including reserved categories is 125. In addition to the seats available for the B.Des Programme, an additional 19 seats are available for Overseas Candidates. Total No. of Seats in NID B.Design programme for overseas (supernumerary) candidates - 19. 

For MDes Courses: In addition to the number of seats mentioned above, three seats are available for overseas candidates for M.Des disciplines with 19 seats & two seats are available for disciplines with 12 seats. CHECK: Eligibility for NID Ahmedabad. 

NID Ahmedabad Entrance Exam

To get admission to NID Ahmedabad, candidates need to clear a two phased entrance exam, called NID DAT. The first phase of the exam is NID DAT Prelims & the second phase is NID DAT Mains. CHECK: NID Ahmedabad Syllabus

NID Prelims is a written exam and usually held in the month of January-February. It is a written examination comprising both subjective & objective questions. The B.Des Dat Prelims is a single paper consisting of 3 hour duration whereas the M.Des paper is further divided into two parts: CDAT ie Common Design Aptitude Test for 30 minutes and design-specific test for 2 hours. NID Ahmedabad Admission
