NID Ahmedabad Admission

NID Ahmedabad Application Forms for the academic year 2023-24 are out now!! For admissions, the Application process started on October 21, 2022. NID first phase entrance exam, NID DAT Prelims will be held on January 8th, 2023. For more info, visit Admission in NID Ahmedabad

NID Ahmedabad Entrance Exam

To get admission in NID Ahmedabad, a candidate needs to clear a two phased entrance exam, called NID DAT.

The first phase of the exam is NID DAT Prelims & the second phase is NID DAT Mains. 

NID Prelims is a written exam and usually held in the month of January-February.

It comprises both subjective & objective questions. 

The B.Des Dat Prelims is a single paper consisting of 3 hour duration whereas the M.Des paper is further divided into two parts: CDAT ie Common Design Aptitude Test for 30 minutes and Domain-Specific Test for 2 hours.

Shortlisted candidates are called for the second phase exam, called DAT Mains.

NID Ahmedabad MDes Courses

NID offers two and a half year M.Des courses in 7 disciplines.

Consumer products (electronic & entertainment products, white goods), transportation, capital equipment and machine tools, toys

Furniture & Interior Design

Home, Office & Retail Furniture Systems

Ceramic & Glass Design

Lifestyle Products, studio pottery & sanitaryware

Graphic Design

Design for publications, marketing communications, social and developmental communications

Animation Film Design

Classical Animation, Computer Animation, Model Animation and Animation for the Web

Film & Video Communication

Marketing Communication (advertising and corporate films), social communication (developmental and educational short films), design for tourism industry

Textile Design

Constructed textiles (woven, knitted, non-woven textiles), surface design print, mixed media, embroidery, finishing techniques (surface ornamentation), textiles for apparels, technical fabrics

For BDes Courses: Total No. of Seats offered in NID B.Design programme for Indian Nationals including reserved categories is 125. 

In addition to the seats available for the B.Des Programme, an additional 19 seats are available for Overseas Candidates.

For MDes Courses: Of the seats mentioned above, three seats are available for overseas candidates for M.Des disciplines with 19 seats & two seats are available for disciplines with 12 seats.

National Institute of Design Ahmedabad, Bangalore & Gandhinagar together saw 124 companies participating in it's campus placements. 

Microsoft offerred jobs to 30 students at NID.

Approximately 400 job offers have been made to students so far.

NID Ahmedabad Hostel

Hostel, Mess, Canteen facilities are available for students at NID Ahmedabad Campus. 

Separate Hostel facility for boys & girls is obtainable as per availability.

The facility is currently available only for B Des students at NID Ahmedabad Campus.

Hostel accomodation is alloted every academic year on a single or shared occupancy.

Priority for Hostel facility is given to outstation students. 

Full Subscription to the Mess facilities is compulsory for all Hostel residents.

National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad

N I D Ahmedabad, Gujarat is one of foremost multi-disciplinary institute in the field of design education & research. It has been listed as one of the top 25 European & Asian programmes in the world, by the Business Week, USA.

NID Ahmedabad was originally called National Institute of Industrial Design. It was established in September, 1961 by the Government of India as an autonomous all India body. Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family assisted and played a major role in the establishment of NID Ahmedabad.

Today National Institute of Design functions as an autonomous body under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. NID has been declared 'Institution of National Importance' by the Act of Parliament , by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act 2014. It is also recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India as a Scientific and Industrial Research organisation.
